Elves Special Needs Society

Please allow us to introduce Elves Special Needs Society's organization which offers programs to children and adults with disabilities.  The School Program is a non-profit independent school designated as special education by Alberta Education, which offers school and pre-school programs for children with disabilities.  Our school has been in operation serving disabled children and families since 1973.  The Adult Program was initiated in 1985 to meet the needs of students reaching adulthood.

Elves has three locations:

  • Elves School Program Main Centre located at 10825 - 142 Street
  • Elves Adult & Youth Centre located at 10419 - 159 Street
  • Elves Early Education Program (FASD) located at 10421 - 159 Street
  • Elves FASD Respite Care Program a research project for families of children diagnosed with FASD, held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays, located at the Main Centre at 10825 - 142 Street.

The school and preschool offers programs for children diagnosed with developmental delays, fragile medical conditions, Autism and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).  Elves has expanded its mandate to offer educational programming to pre-school age children, not only for severe disabled and medically fragile children, but also offers programming to mobile children affected with FASD, Autism, speech delays and challenged behaviours.

Historically, the School and Adult Programs are funded by the Alberta Government, Alberta Education and Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD).  Elves' team work directly with children, adults and their families and are composed of Certified Teachers/Instructors and experienced Teacher Assistants.  The support team is composed of qualified professionals in the areas of Nursing (RN's, LPN's), Behavioural and Early Educational Consultant, Rehabilitation Practitioner, Occupational and Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Social Work.
